Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are set to file for bankruptcy.

The couple who recently rekindled their relationship after separating in April have squandered their $US10 million fortune on renting a $US35,000-a-month Malibu home, wasting $US3 million on Montag's failed music career, six cars, private jets and the blonde beauty's cosmetic surgery and are now faced with a $US2 million tax bill they are unable to pay.

Pratt said: "We were immature, worrying too much about the famous part instead of the actual business part. In hindsight, we shouldn't have spent any of our money. We should have been low-key and saved.

"We spoke with a bankruptcy attorney and I've looked into unemployment cheques."

The pair have been left homeless and are now living in a studio apartment in the grounds of Pratt's parents' home.

Montag filed a motion to dismiss her divorce petition Wednesday, which she had submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court in July.

It seems the fame-loving duo reconciled while dealing with the possible release of their sex tape.

Pratt publicly apologized to his wife and Heidi told People that "We are back together trying to make things work. . . We do love each other and realized we do want to spend the rest of our lives together."
