Former pop star Nick Lachey and his new bride Vanessa Minnillo are expecting their first child less than a year after they wed.

The ex-98 Degrees star and his TV presenter wife got married in a secret ceremony in July last year and they announced on TV on Monday that Minnillo is pregnant.

Lachey tells "Live! With Kelly," on which he was a guest co-host, "She was in New York and I was in the Bahamas. She went to the store and got a pregnancy test and it came back positive. We're having a baby! This is the one thing that more than any other I've looked forward to, and it's overwhelming."

Lachey said the couple has already discussed a name for the child, adding, "If it's a girl, I think it might be Sophia. If it's a boy, I'm not sure."

After enjoying a week in St. Barts where they celebrated their nuptials beachside, Mr. and Mrs. Lachey looked tanned and toned as they arrived at LAX Airport in Los Angeles.

After touching down, Vanessa tweeted: "Home Sweet Home! Thank u sooo much for all the Love tweets! Ahhh, in bed with my boys Married Life is Good. Sweet Dreams Everyone! X"

The 98 Degrees singer is best known for being Jessica Simpson's first husband, but now Nick Lachey has got a new lady friend - and they're engaged!

Nick has been dating Vanessa Minnillo since 2006 and the couple today announced they are set to tie the knot after he popped the question on a beach in California.

In a joint statement, the pair said: "We're excited and incredibly happy about our engagement and we look forward to a wonderful future together."

The 36-year-old star tweeted: "Hey all. If anyone's heard the rumours of my engagement, they are absolutely true! Vanessa and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for all the love."

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have reportedly run into each other while on a date with their new lovers.

The former Newlyweds couple, who divorced in 2005, shared an awkward reunion on Thursday night when they both brought their respective partners Eric Johnson and Vanessa Minnillo for dinner at Hollywood's Red-O restaurant.

Despite the uncomfortable situation, People reports that the chance encounter had been "surprisingly drama-free".

A source said: "They didn't interact. They didn't even come to face-to-face with each other. Jessica was more fazed by the amount of paparazzi than anything else."

Nick Lachey would star in a reality TV show with his girlfriend.

The singer-and-presenter - whose marriage to Jessica Simpson was chronicled in four seasons of fly-on-the-wall series 'Newlyweds' - insists his previous experiences haven't put him off doing a similar programme with long-term partner Vanessa Minnillo, but admits he has not been approached to do so.

He said: "There's nothing in the works right now. I think it would pose a unique set of challenges. I guess the positive is that I'm actually familiar with those challenges. The negative would be I'm also familiar with those challenges. It's hard to say never to anything. You never know."

The 36-year-old star also praised his "powerful" girlfriend, admitting he loves her femininity.

He gushed: "It's four years now. She's probably the most unique woman I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. She's feminine and beautiful and sexy and she's also probably the most powerful person I've ever had the opportunity to know. She's very unique, headstrong, passionate. a great girl.

"She's a leader, a go-getter, not one to sit back and let things be dictated to her. She and I are very much alike, two fiery people. We have the same birthday [and] we're very similar personalities, which is great. She's the most unique and special person I've ever known!"
